Living Better with Parkinson’s
Program Participant Criteria of Acceptance
Must be double vaccinated
Complete a physician’s clearance form
Complete a E Par Medix form
Be independently mobile
Ability to direct own activity level based on comfort and ability
PD Move Well Fitness Program
Starting October 19, 2021
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10 to 11 am
Two sessions per week for four weeks
Program Cost: $120 ($15 per session)
Program Goal: Our goal is to enable participants to move better by practicing simple and effective fundamental and functional movements that stimulate major muscle groups and mimic common movements of daily living at home, at work, or in sports and enables them to live better with the Parkinson’s disease.
The Living Better with Parkinson’s organization will begin offering a PD Move Well functional fitness program in person at the Collingwood Squash and Fitness Centre. Fitness professionals are offering coaching of this group exercise program specifically for those living with Parkinson’s disease. The program is limited to a maximum of six people per session. Participants must commit to all 4 weeks and 8 sessions and registration is mandatory.
As part of the intake process, you are asked to complete the intake forms below and return to Catherine Smart (Program Director) via email at info@livingbetterwithparkinsons.ca or in person at the Collingwood Squash and Fitness Centre no later than Friday October 1st, 2021. You will then be scheduled for a 1 hour preliminary intake consultation with a fitness professional on October 14 or 15, 2021. You will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination during the preliminary intake consultation.

To join the PD Be Well program, you must confirm that you meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
- You have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease by a neurologist.
- You can safely walk without the assistance of mobility aids for at least an hour.
- You have obtained clearance from your family physician to join a fitness program.
- You have proof of vaccination (two doses) against COVID-19. If you are not fully vaccinated, you will not be able to join the program.
We are following current provincial guidelines regarding COVID-19. You will be required to wear a mask and sanitize your hands upon entering the building and checking-in with the front desk. You will be asked a few COVID-19 screening questions on arrival.
Improve Physical Function
Provide an environment to improve physical function and social interaction
Small Groups
Coach a small group of a maximum 6 participants over a 4 week period to safely and effectively perform fundamental and functional exercises
Building Blocks
Implement foundational “building blocks” and functional movement-based exercises with a focus on mobility, balance, strength, and coordination
Personalized Coaching
Provide as needed, individualized regressions and progressions of exercises to participants
Challenge and Encourage
Encourage participants to challenge themselves resulting in increased functional capacity
Pleasureable Experience
